Oil Pulling For Oral Health

implant-sydney-dentist-oil-pulling

What is oil pulling?

Oil pulling is an age-old remedy that uses natural substances to clean and detoxify teeth and gums. It has the added effect of whitening teeth naturally and evidence even shows that it is beneficial in improving gums and removing harmful bacteria!

The basic idea is that oil is swished in the mouth for a short time each day and that this action helps improve oral health. Just as with Oil Cleansing for the skin, the principle of “like dissolves like” applies, as oil is able to cut through plaque and remove toxins without disturbing the teeth or gums.

The practice of oil pulling started in India thousands of years ago, and from my research, was first introduced to the United States in the early 1990s by a medical doctor named Dr. F. Karach, who used it with success in his medical practice.

I found hundreds of testimonials online from people who experienced benefits from oil pulling, including help with skin conditions, arthritis, asthma, headaches, hormone imbalances, infections, liver problems and more.

Though I’ve done this for a few years, my only personal experience is with increased oral health and less sensitive (and whiter!) teeth. After listening to the recent Heal Thy Mouth Summit and hearing several experts explain how bacteria and infection can enter the blood through the mouth, it does make sense that addressing these infections could have an impact in other parts of the body, I just haven’t had personal experience with this.

At the very least, I think that oil pulling can be very beneficial and has no downside as long as a quality oil (that is high enough quality to eat) is used. Oil pulling is a very inexpensive therapy that could potentially have great benefit on oral health, so I see no downside to trying it and I have used it myself for several years.

When Does Wisdom Needs To Exist?

implant-dentist-sydney-when-does-wisdom-needs-to-exist?

Do you believe in preventive or rather prophylactic extraction, or would you suggest to leave them for the good condition still exists? Would you recommend wisdom tooth extraction for your child especially upon reaching early adulthood?

There are common dental problems involving wisdom tooth that occur during early adulthood and even to patients over 50 years of age. Think about what would you prefer or ask about your dentist's stance about his personal opinion based on actual evaluation and experiences?

They are commonly called or known as "third molars", wisdom teeth are the last to come out. Their arrival which can be sometimes late into your twenties, is not always a usual phenomena. In total, we can expect to have four wisdom teeth, both upper and lower, left and right part of the jaw. But there are cases wherein enough space for the extra teeth will not be possible. Sadly, this can cause problems and for sure a lot of pain. Sometimes the feeling of pain and discomfort suddenly disappear, however there are instances wisdom teeth need to be extracted. With the recovery time of a couple of days, the procedure is usually a quick one carried out using local anaesthetic.

Our desire and natural ability to maintain proper hygiene in these hard-to-reach areas consistently over many decades is compromised. It may not be a great issue to retain wisdom teeth as a young adult, nevertheless, the chances of developing decay or periodontal disease increases as we grow older. However, there are factors we have to consider like aging for example. It  increases the risk of developing condition that may hinder the healing process. We should take note all of these facts before considering wisdom tooth extraction.

As the widow of a late dental professional, it is my observation and I'm happy to share this with you. He had most of the time recommended: To get your wisdom tooth extracted at an early age until your bone is soft and teeth will come out easily, thus, the healing process will develop faster. Although, we may be lucky and never encounter any problem in few cases, waiting will just put us into the risk of a more complicated and agonizing recovery with inevitable or constant damage to the remaining other teeth.

Dental Health During Pregnancy - How Not To Loose A Tooth For Every Child

implant-sydney-dentist-dental-health-during-pregnancy

When I attended the first appointment with my midwife, she advised me "to stock up on old-fashioned sweets like cola cubes" because my body "needed sugar" now that I was pregnant. She even recommended that I keep the sweets by my bedsides with a can of fizzy pop so that if I woke up in the middle of the night, I could top up my "energy levels". I was gobsmacked. For the first time I understood how the old wives tale "you'll lose a tooth for every child" is still doing the rounds and that's before we've even ventured into the risks factors for gestational diabetes. So, is it possible to maintain your dental health during pregnancy? Of course it is! Here's how...

Tips for optimal dental health during pregnancy

1.) Ideally, make an appointment for a dental check up before you begin trying for a baby. This will enable your dentist to take x-rays and ensure you are dentally fit before you become pregnant. Failing that, it is still safe to take x-rays in the second trimester. Dental care in the UK is free during pregnancy until your baby’s first birthday. Make the most of it!  Getting your teeth fixed is part of your health MOT – believe me you do not want to be dealing with toothache and a newborn baby.

2.) If you get pregnancy sickness, resist the urge to brush your teeth straight after vomiting. If you do, you risk brushing away the enamel which has been softened by the acidic nature of your stomach contents. Try using a fluoride mouthrinse, such as Colgate Fluorigard, instead to take away the yucky taste and leave it half an hour before brushing.

Dental Implants: Failure Risks and Promising Development

implant-dentist-sydney-dental-implants-failure-risks-and-promising-development

Dental implants are now used widely around the globe. However, questions about patient risk assessment prior to placing the implants still bound. What causes implants to fail in some patients but not others?

The placement of implants in a patient with periodontal disease would be one relevant concern. Researchers from Sweden performed a systematic review to determine if a persons with periodontitis are more susceptible to peri-implantitis. (1) The scientists included 22 randomized and non-randomized clinical human studies. The conclusion was that an increased in susceptibility for periodontitis may also confer an increased risks for implant loss, loss of supporting bone and postoperative infection. They also state that the study results should be considered cautiously due to confounding uncontrolled factors. As dental implant placement concepts change, we should all be aware of the clinical implications of studies such as this one.

A recently published study discussed the effectiveness of implant treatment in a large patient population nine years after treatment. (2) They used a large and randomly selected patient sample, and concluded that patient characteristics and implant features affect results. They discovered that smokers and patients with an initial diagnosis of periodontitis were at higher risks of implant loss. Those with implants shorter than 10 mm and implants using particular kind of products also showed increased risks.

Trends in Implant Dentistry

implant-sydney-dentist

Implants are poised for explosive growth in the coming decade. A perfect storm is about to hit in terms of demographics, consumer awareness, and a host of other factors that bode well for restorative and surgical practices. According to conservative assessment profiles – e.g., iData Research, an international market research firm – the U.S. market for dental implants is expected to regain double-digit growth by 2013.
The potential market for implant treatment is huge. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons found that 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth to an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal, or tooth decay. In addition, by age 74, 26% of adults will have lost all of their permanent teeth.
Despite the vast numbers of patients who could benefit from implants, many U.S. general dentists are involved in less than one implant procedure per month. This figure seems all the more remarkable, considering:
  • The many quality-of-life benefits that implants offer to patients
  • The potential to increase production with an easily sustainable revenue stream for both restorative and surgical practices
  • The fact that, unlike in medicine, almost all implant procedures cannot be shunted to auxiliaries
The future of implants couldn't be brighter, but dental practices need to get ready today. There are excellent opportunities for generalists and specialists to receive implant education, information, and mentoring through dental organizations such as the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), multiple institutes, CE courses, and manufacturer-based training.

Boil Down The Stress Against Childhood Dental Visits

pediatric-dentistry-sydney-dental-implants

It takes a lifetime of professional and personal care to maintain a healthy teeth and gums. While it is true that early dental visits played a great importance that could lead to oral care costs and maintenance. Starting from the child’s first tooth eruption, it shows that starting dental visits prior to the age one helps ensure that the kids will be having a pleasant and happy future with the dentist.

Children need to be familiarized with professional dental care. It will help them learn the comfort and and will feel at ease to consider the dentist’s office as a regular part of their life. An experienced pedodontist should be that special person to accommodate every child’s dental commitment.

Of course, it is but possible for a child to be nervous before a dental visit. Even grown-ups have been known trying to avoid that funny image showing some anxiety during the related dental moments. However, that scenario could match a possible solution instead. There are dental professionals who are experts on children and they have several techniques in order to make the visit as stress-free as possible.

Most children quickly pick up on non-verbal cues and hints which makes them feel something’s wrong. Both the parents and the doctor of dental concern should prepare the kids for what’s coming, but please, try to avoid giving much information. We just want the children feel safe and comfortable during the visit, so all they need to know is to be told dental matters in age-appropriate terms. The truth is, most of the kids’ first dental experience may consist of a show-and-tell about what to do and about what tools to be use. Oh, I just thought of my mom when I was a kid everytime a dental appointment was approaching.

A little fact-gathering and proper identification of delicate actions thus focusing our attention to come up with a realistic and a distinct risk-targeted program or procedure in order to develop healthy habits. That is definitely anticipation of future oral health needs. Getting young people on the right track early makes it possible for them to have positive emotional experiences that will pave the way for lifetime dental health maintenance routines.

A stress- free dental experience is the foundation of every child's dental commitment. Kids as they grow and mature can accept responsibility for their own health, but this can only be strengthen and boost by our positive attitudes, good actions and great encouragements.

All About Dental Implants

Dental implants can be the perfect solution for missing teeth. No matter how the teeth got lost, due to an accident or lack of dental hygiene, a dental implant will replace the teeth. Getting a London dental implant can be the best option to create a beautiful smile once again.

Dental implants are artificial titanium roots that are inserted in to the jaw bone to hold the replacement tooth in place. Titanium is used because of the naturally occurring process called osseointegration. This is a process that happens when the jaw bone fuses with the titanium, permanently keeping the tooth implants anchored.

There are two types of tooth implants - subperiosteal and endosperm. Subperiosteal implants make up a metal frame that is installed on top of the jaw bone below the gums. The gums will heal and the frame will become permanently attached to the bone.

These kinds of implants are less common and used if the patient has a significant amount of bone loss. The cost for these implants is higher than endosperm implants. Endosteal implants are more common than subperiosteal.

Endosteal implants are inserted directly into the jaw. Once the osseointegration process is complete, the patient needs to wait until the gums are healed before the posts can be attached to the implant. Once the posts are attached, the crowns will be placed on top. These are more common than subperiosteal and have a lower implant cost.

When there are multiple teeth that need to be replaced, a bridge is used. The bridge is a special type that is only used when teeth implants are needed to support it. This is opposed to natural teeth which will increase the teeth implant costs. An implant is inserted into each gap and then the bridge is installed on top after osseointegration.

There are three rules available for people who are missing all of their teeth and need to have them replaced. The first procedure is an implant-supported bridge where six to eight implants are put in the mouth. The mouth is restored with porcelain crowns and bridges.

The second procedure is removable dental implant dentures which are supported by one or two implants. Two to four implants and a dentures on top are supported by the implants. The dentures is stable this way. The third procedure is dental dentures implants which support a fixed dentures hybrid. This option allows more implants to be placed that can support a fixed dentures hybrid.

There are three steps when a tooth implant is installed. The first is surgery preparation. Before implants can be installed, the mouth needs to be examined and analyzed with x-rays and CT scans. Factors involved in the procedure will be determined and an estimate of the cost will be given.

Next, tooth implants will be inserted into the jaw bone. Osseointegration will take place. This can take a few weeks, so a temporary tooth will be inserted until the second appointment is reached.

Lastly, an artificial crown will be attached to the dental implants. This step is very quick but it may need readjustments after the fact. After the entire procedure is complete, the implants will be fully functional and look the same as natural teeth.

Tooth implants are indistinguishable from natural teeth and can last over a decade if they are taken care of. An implant can prevent the overcrowding and misalignment of teeth. The mouth will be protected from problems that could occur because of the gap in teeth. There is no need to remove implants at night or when eating and they can be cleaned the same way as natural teeth.

Teeth implants cannot be inserted if the mouth is unhealthy. There should be no presence of bacteria or gum disease in the mouth. Some cases, the mouth does not have enough bone. However this can be fixed with bone grafting or an augmentation procedure before the implants.
